  1. @Mal I'm not trying to create a concept, I understand that concepts are worth nothing without experiencial reference. But I want some guidelines, to help me find the experiencial "substance". I want the wisdom and the experience of someone greater in awareness than me, put into words, so that I know what to look for. I like the idea of seeing the difference between awareness and thinking, but now I wanna understand more about awareness itself, and more than that, I wanna understand the process of using awareness to correct the dysfunctions and neurosis of the mind. @Kenya I'm not interested in enlightenment right now. "raising your awareness is more like removing the trash from your mind" can you describe that process to me ? @Piotr I see what you mean, but suppose that I have never in my life payed attention to how the air feels on my face, and then someone tells me "Hey, try to feel the air on your face." then my awareness will be directed towards trying to feel the air on my face, and I will finally be able to feel it, which is what really matters.
  2. @Natasha Yeah I did, but it left me a little confused. @Toby That's a good idea, I'm going to meditate using that today. @30secs Observation of what ?
  3. @Leo Gura I would like to know your point of view if possible. I got inspired by your last video about awareness. (:
  4. Some days ago Leo uploaded a video affirming that free will doesn't exist and determinism is right. We don't have control of our thoughts, nor of our actions, and I agree with all of that. But today one thought came up to my head while discussing with a friend : What about consciousness ? Do we have control of where we put our attention ? Even when we are thinking, there seems to be an underlying filed of consciousness watching that thought. Maybe that's why the sense that we control our thoughts is so real. We don't have control of our thoughts, but we seem to have control over where we put our awareness to lead those thoughts. What do you guys think about this ?
  5. On his last video, Leo said that to achieve real growth we must change who we are because who we are is the root of our problems. I wanna clarify as practical as possible, what defines who. Now, I don't mean the Enlightened Self, I mean Personality. So, I'm gonna give my thoughts on the subject : To me, Personality, Being, Who we are, means : Our Habits And I don't mean just simple habits like meditating or exercising everyday, I mean everything that involves a Trigger, and a Response. This means thinking habits, talking habits, moving habits, eating habits, relationship habits, and the list goes on... Our Values What do we value ? What are our Ideals ? When we make a decision, what we consider ? Who we aspire to be ? What are we proud of ? Our Beliefs What we believe is right and wrong ? What are our opinions on a subject ? What we believe about ourselves ? How we view ourselves ? What do we think is true ? Let's have a good old discussion !
  6. Well, thank you very much
  7. An interesting thing is that I have noticed an identity that I like to call "MR.PleaseLikeMe", it usually appears whenever I feel insecure or sad, but the interesting thing is that on the moment I notice it and think to myself "Oh, this is just another Identity" it starts to melt away, and another identity takes it's place. That's probably because the identity was based on the fact that I was denying myself, so when I became aware of it, it lost it's purpose =]
  8. Funny thing, one of my identities is named cool dude hahaha
  9. @Isle of View This is such a cool concept I've never thought about the fact that we don't have just one identity, and now i'm really starting to see not only my identities but also other people identities, it's like seeing the matrix haha Reflecting on the idea I've been able to identify 5 identities that I operate on specific situations, I even gave them names haha and like you said, everyone of them has it's "job", its purpose on the situation, its characteristics... Another thing I've noticed is that they sometimes overlap each other and learn some skills from another identity. Loved the analogy !
  10. I read books, I do exercises, I try really hard, I start to improve, I see change, but every single time, out of nowhere, I get back to my old habits, I get back to my old behaviors, then I have to drag myself up the hill again. It feels like I have to fight my way up to be happy, and everything else is pushing me down. There are days when I feel really great, really good self esteem, amazing interactions with people, super confident. And there are days when it looks like everything breaks down, low self esteem, insecurity, needy. Then comes frustration followed by depression, every single time. It feels like I'm running in circles. And the worst part is that I just CAN'T understand WHY this happens ! I continue with the same practices, the same mindsets, the same books. There is simply no reason for me to wake up one day and feel awful all day long, doesn't matter what I do How do I deal with this ?
  11. This is pretty much the way I am approaching personal development right now =]
  12. The clearest definition I can give you is one I got from Leo's last video : To achieve real growth you must change who you are I'm going to do a post exploring this subject because I have some doubts too
  13. If things can appear on awareness, it means the things are not awareness, because they are being perceived by awareness. Awareness can't appear on awareness. That's just not possible ! How the hell can I perceive awareness ?! this is hard
  14. Hum... I still have a lot of questions, but if I hadn't, I would be enlightened already And I think no one can really answer these questions but me. After all, how is it possible for someone to discuss the nature of Being using language ? But thanks for all who answered !
  15. yeah I've seen it, and that's what got me confused haha If awareness can't be perceived, how does one achieve enlightenment ?
  16. hahaha yeah Everytime I say "I" I mean consciousness, being consciousness, experiencing consciousness. But I guess it all comes down to I guess I think... Language is flawed, I can't (dammit, I again haha) properly express my experiences through language without separating myself to an I. Principally to talk about the I Itself.
  17. Another thought just came up to my head right now : What's left of a thought when you subtract images and sounds ? What if Consciousness is a form of thought ?
  18. I believe the opposite; our putting of attention into something generates thoughts. Why would consciousness exist outside the human brain ? and how can you know that it does ?
  19. I am reading and working with the six pillars of self esteem. And the first one is the practice of living consciously. I already have a pretty good understanding of Branden's perspective, and I am putting it into practice but what do you guys think it means to practice living consciously ?
  20. Raising awareness to the consequences of my acts, and acting in a way that causes positive effects ! Wonderful ! Yeah who knows...
  21. Oh you mean being conscious of the judgments I make about experiences. Cool, Leo has some videos about judgments, the one about judging other people is especially good =) I've watched them but never went too deep about the other video (about judgments ruining my happiness) But this is an interesting concept, I'll try to bring more awareness to this point =)
