Oh and just for the record haha as it pertains to actual gym work I don’t really have breaks between sets (APEX PREDATOR MINDSET!), I just work on a different muscle group. That’s the best strategy outside of the gym as well, see meditation as a set and a rest between another set (best of both worlds). I don’t do meditation though I find the working memory game and related information (mentioned in thread I created bout it) is better for someone like me. On that note I’m probably subconsciously using this site as a resting period haha so I’m going to take the next 7 days off this site!

I forgot one important thing! As edited above: "Otherwise one last thing here, novelty is extremely important when it comes to keeping those flexible regions of then mind continuously engaged, don't just dial up the same stimuli every session, that'll lessen the potential growth. Meaning continuously work to generate new associations, so if you're working with sounds or whatever (i.e. visual) make sure those sounds are different, even strange weird sounds you've never even imagined before get loose and creative!" If anyone has any further questions I'd be more than happy to be of service.

Hey everyone, I wanted to share something I train on to improve my working memory, by far the best thing I've ever trained on. I've had a lot of ADHD related problems in the past but what I truly find is that the more I train on this the less those symptoms emerge. I wouldn't be mentioning it if I didn't think it worked. For me it doesn't even take much before I start seeing results, maybe a few days of training for about an hour. If you have an iPad you can just put the device on top of a treadmill and walk at the same time, at least after you've learned how to play! http://competicionmental.appspot.com/router?page=rfnback&en=1# If you're interested in learning about how I play the game to get the gains that I think I get just comment here and I can begin to teach you! If you truly devote yourself you won't regret it, the benefits I get are second to none. There's been this n-back game advertised in the past, let me tell you, for me its way better than that over the long term. Feel free to discuss any other ideas you have on the subject, its one that undoubtedly has a lot of positive implications for people if there's something that works as opposed to just being mere placebo. I've trained on and off this thing for quite some time now, I'm generally extremely cautious making recommendations like this so I guarantee you this is coming from a good thought out place .

@DoubleYou Ideology is imperative to justify any action, its ideology to say "don't have ideology" what is dangerous is ideology with increasing attachment. Ideology is not the problem, its the corrosive effect of poor ideologies that are. Thus your statement has no logical grounding however it does have popular opinion among people who haven't thought about the problem clearly enough. "Sometimes its quite alright" Based on what exactly? No need to take offense I'm just stating things as I see them. See to me things need to be axiomatically justified, in order to perform any activity, either someone is on "auto-pilot" or they're thinking and doing, and if its the latter then what thinking is explaining the doing? What is the methodology for that thinking? Why is that thinking chosen over other kinds of thinking? After enough thinking about life and the myriad of choices we could make in the context of life, from preparing to climb Mt. Everest to thinking up solutions to problems to spending relaxation via meditation, Netflix would likely fall at the bottom of the list of priorities, especially as it pertains to being a regular thing. Netflix is designed to make peoples "auto-pilots" addicted, thus I'd have to ask those persons, what is your method for not being addicted? Martyrdom is a statement that you'd have to logically justify, so in this sense I see this as a false either or you're making, something that acts to invalidate a position that was never made while taking out a position that was made but that wasn't thought well enough about given that I already stated as can be quoted above: "they can try to take as much action as they can without being outcome dependent, that can also be a form of spiritual maturity." "But at some point you're going to want to aim for some balance. " This is also stating that somehow it is imbalanced to always take action, based on what social norm is it imbalanced? Why is that social norm justified? Since when has any social norm been accurate? This just goes back to axiomatically justifying things otherwise you're just leaving things all up in the air allowing for auto-pilot to take care of things. Peace out

Actually @Nivsch, I'd encourage you to see lack of action as being more related ego than taking action. Someone can see taking as much action as they can as a way to push through the egoic part of yourself that wants to just "chill and watch Netflix". To me given the psychological and physical benefits (within limits of course - make sure you sleep well), it seems much more healthy to see taking as much action as one can as a form of enlightenment training than lack of action. If action is tied to ones sense of meaning and truly is related to their ego then they can try to take as much action as they can without being outcome dependent, that can also be a form of spiritual maturity. This mindset cooperates well with rest between sets too. Here's a good Goggins video which supports. So many people are afraid of suffering and I think that's the thing that holds them back most: Enlightenment Through Suffering in Ultra Running (David Goggins)
-
@Nivsch, action isn't related to ego, ego is related to ego. This topic is very nuanced that people misunderstand and subsequently delude themselves about. Again - on the subject of testosterone:
-
People who believe in rest and passivity as a way to live life are seriously, seriously misinformed about the constituents of reality. They're a physical body that is meant to move around and achieve actions, especially as a human being. A human being was never evolved to be a "rest guru" haha. There's one simple policy to me when it comes to action: rest between sets (i.e. like in weight training), that's it. Rest never becomes a set unto itself like many people make it. Having the need for rest as a philosophy is seriously indicative of health issues (i.e. lower levels of testosterone - which can be corrected these days with the right actions, etc so there's no excuse - although there's of course differences in ones potential here that doesn't mean someone with lower levels of testosterone has the right to make a philosophy out of being lazy simply because they're not motivated to do a lot of stuff) of one way or another that they justify with a "spiritual cultural norm". Oh my god there's nothing spiritual about sitting down and doing nothing, as a strategic imperative in between sets to aid the majority of your action taking sure, otherwise why even exist? The only logical choice to exist includes some kind of useful action that can be produced, no one in their right mind is going to be like "my reason for existence is to sit here and do nothing", that's just the devil talking.

I really want others to benefit from it in the way I have so I'll just explain it so you don't feel embarrassed or anything like that about asking, of which you'd have no need to! Its comparable to physical exercise so there's really no need to feel any shame/related around this topic Here's a description I shared elsewhere Hey _______ I hope you're doing well, firstly its my recommendation to read this whole comment to understand everything clearly. Without utilising the described way of interacting with the game its my belief that benefits would be vastly inferior: INSTRUCTION VIDEO - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVx_J7ECm9Y&feature=youtu.be I've decided to instead share a working memory game I think has enormous value, on that note because you might notice the resemblance to n-back if you're aware of that game know that its much superior, that traditional n-back does not at all really enhance ones relational working memory as I will briefly describe and as you will come to understand if you choose to train on it. If you're not familiar with n-back, its important to checkout the instructional video listed in the description box along with the link to the recommended game. One aspect I haven't described in the video is the way that I engage with the game, I will do so in this comment. Once you've familiarised yourself with how to play the game here's how I think someone would get the most benefit out of it and it has to do with how they interact with the symbols. Now you can change this according to the kind of areas of the brain you might wish to stimulate, for example because I'm involved in music I imagine musical rhythms but if you're an engineer you might wish to imagine various spatial geometries, mechanics, etc. My rule of thumb here is the more the stimulus is, the better. Okay now the method - extremely important to follow as noted: 1. Firstly, see the words presented as symbols that you will associate meaning to 2. Create a meaning in your mind about what the symbols mean, for example as I stated I'm into music so what I'd do is imagine a drum beat with a certain rhythm for one of the relations (which is one of the words) and let's say the next relation said "opposite" then I could interpret that in a number of ways where my chosen interpretation would describe the quality of the stimulus produced. For example, I could do a number of different things with a drum beat (with a certain rhythm) in the context of "OPPOSITE", I could imagine (1) an opposing drum beat (2) or something that I imagined at the time as being the opposite to a drum beat, like a piano or even just a person screaming. Any number of things could be comparably the "OPPOSITE" to a drum beat, including as it pertains to something that was oppositional to the quality of the drum beat produced. Otherwise one last thing here, novelty is extremely important when it comes to keeping those flexible regions of then mind continuously engaged, don't just dial up the same stimuli every session, that'll lessen the potential growth. Meaning continuously work to generate new associations, so if you're working with sounds or whatever (i.e. visual) make sure those sounds are different, even strange weird sounds you've never even imagined before get loose and creative! 3. Now every time you see that relation in the context of the n-level make sure you remember the association that you initially made with the stimulus. For example, if you imagined a trumpet playing a certain kind of tune for the word "milk" then the next time "milk" was presented you would then remember to associate the exact same tune you were playing before with the trumpet. And that's literally all there is to it, its probably one of if not the best ways I've come across to reliably improve my relational working memory. Now that I've come to the realisation that it really does work after over a year now of on and off training, I'm going to commit to at least an hour on the treadmill with my iPad sitting on top where I walk and play simultaneously. After just a few days of training in the way I've described you will notice changes beyond the placebo effect. Experiment yourself, don't play the game after you notice improvements to test to see if it really works and when you objectively notice things aren't as good as they were you'll have a similar validation of the method as I do now. The difference being is that I've gone back and fourth like that a number of times now and have anecdotally documented my own changes and corresponding weaknesses (ADHD related) that ameliorated. As for my pattern streaming, I still need to think about things more to get a proper handle. To me working memory training is more important to me without which training on the method I've created would be much less effective given its stimulus dependent. Stimulus dependent here means that the effectiveness with which you can even apply the technique and reap benefits ultimately depends on the capacity to hold stimuli in the mind, thus training working memory first in the way I've described here I believe would likely prove to be a more effective means of installing the right hardware before you engage with this method. In so saying as much, I will still however share my method in the coming weeks in fact it seems like you already have a pretty good working memory so you might like to entertain interest in the briefly described version here (https://www.quora.com/What-are-some-exercises-to-build-courage/answer/Florence-Rivers - also perhaps your okay with not having to include the memory component up to you) in the context of beliefs and emotions because as I stated, I do believe its a de-programming tool because we become much more aware of our own patterns and in doing so, have a greater capacity to transform and recondition our state outside our regular norm. I'm generally just very tentative about my own conclusions about things so I want to make sure that if I'm sharing I'm doing so from the most informed perspective I can achieve at the time of sharing. Peace out

Yes good point @Shadowraix , my bias is that I tend to be very pedantic when it comes to accurately assessing things only because I have a history of becoming annoyed when others don't exert prudence in their use of a model which is most of the time a closed loop (meaning we can't have good conversations about "Oh where will psychopaths fall in SD?" - it starts to become a bit silly because there's so many assumptions that aren't catered for - thus to this degree the utility around its generalisation becomes less and less).
-
That's a funny thing about balance. Objectivity would actually be a reflection of balance, this is obvious when we look at imbalance and how it becomes increasingly more difficult to be objective in these situations. So to be objective, seek balance and to be balanced, seek objectivity.

This video ties in well with my comment above - I'd say that Jurassic Park is arguably one of the best films ever created. Velociraptor Calls/Noises (Jurassic Park thru Jurassic World) Velociraptor Sounds

No lol. This is cataclysmic illusion hurtling through space at a billion miles an hour towards the planet of ones sensible nature.

One pattern that I think everyone needs to take notice of is that this "inner child" that people speak of seems to only take relevance once someone has experienced psychological injury, if you were happy and nothing was ever wrong then this "inner child" concept would never need to come to light. The inference I'm making here is that this seems to be pretty indicative of what I'm saying, that this "inner child" concept people have invented is merely the consequence of figuring out a way to get someone to discover unresolved trauma that may be there. Moreover, trauma is such a loaded, loaded word, quite often it can be more simply and practically phrased by simply referring to them as neurological patterns that have emerged in conjunction with say an enlarged amygdala, that's on the more extreme end, that with meditation the amygdala will decrease in size and so will some of the trauma. Reprocessing past memories WILL work though if you're engaging with them well, but I think you gotta understand what's happening there too, you're reactivating the chemicals tied to those memories and the reprocessing is changing the chemical signature, for example, you might transfer the feeling of a memory from the feeling of pain to the feeling that you get when you release dopamine. It's amazing how simple we are like this, many people are misinformed and so they never really recover or if they do they won't reach their potential beyond this point.

I’ve tried the Teal Swan technique but I don’t buy into it, to me it doesn’t seem like there’s a good model for what emotions are in the context of the being. I think neurosis creating repression for example is simply due to a lack of awareness. I like Teals technique up until there’s a complete awareness of what’s happening within my body but I don’t think there’s an inner child or anything like that, to me it’s as much awareness as possible followed by creatively selecting activation patterns that are going to facilitate me in the moment. The inner child to me is just a euphemism for “hey you’ve been repressing some stuff go find this thing called the inner child until you find that something” and then afterwards resolve that thing, it’s not reflecting something that I’d refer to as a good model of the reality of what’s happening within us. I don’t think a dolphin, gorilla, dog and so on has an inner child, especially not an ant, I so however think it’s a useful construct to help a human who’s a little more complicated to overcome repression. Good share though I agree, it’s a good thing to open one’s mind try out.

The following sums my previous two comments well, its an interesting subject that I'll document my thoughts to so I can articulate better next time. This might not all make sense to you in the moment, and it doesn't have to, but overtime if you think about it more they'll be incredibly valuable positions to have. Peace How I reckon you need to look at it is as follows: If anything all there is is your awareness, everything else is merely masquerading as yourself. To take proper ‘control’ here you have to have a good understanding of what your body-mind is otherwise you’re going to be misguided like so many other people are and like I was in the past. To me every aspect of myself outside of my awareness is simply a muscle, a muscle that I can influence and grow overtime. This is in line with considering life in terms of its physical forms, we are after all, clumps of mass of various proportions right down to electrical activity in our minds which itself is susceptible to influence based on how we regulate activity there overtime. See our minds are constantly bouncing around between various meanings between reality, for any thought we have our brains go “ahh” then “oh okay this” and its all a play of justified meaning based on our interactions in the past (even in just the last second). This has large implications for what I’m saying here because to the degree that we don’t have a good model for how to interact with reality, say the absence of seeing oneself as the composition of various muscles that we can and are training whenever we engage with them, then this is truly the difference between an actualised life based on understanding the relationship between oneself and the rest of existence in order to bring about those changes versus a life where you’re just living as traitor park trash not even knowing how to look after your 8 children. I mean, the amount of miswiring, that is, the bad “meanings” of reality that are being bounced around as thoughts between the ears of your average trailer park person would have to be enormous. They’d have to be wrong on so many aspects of reality in order to be living the way they do. State of living is a reflection of ones understanding of reality, from trailer park trash to your guy on Wall Street to your buddhist in a temple who’s good at being calm and peaceful but when it comes to understanding important subjects that they can teach others are about they’re extremely poor. I mean how do you think trailer park trash’s views compare to my simple view here regarding the human body? They’d probably think their thoughts are there’s and that they’re right contrary to the external world, and that their feelings are true reflections of them and that if reality doesn’t conform then reality is wrong and sinful. Do you think he’s going to be like: “Oh I think there’s an abundance of oxytocin flowing through my brain at the moment but I don’t know this person very well yet so I oughta just exert some self control here and monitor more about this person” Or are they going to be more like: “I love this woman, I hope I can shag her tonight. I feel like proposing already, yes I’m going to propose tonight” This is where the key to understanding the mind-body from the position of various muscle groups being activated, from chemicals to electrical signals to actual muscle fibres. Its the position of seeing your body-mind as a physical system that acts much like a machine that you can build muscle and strength to in various ways not a "you". Second to this is the realisation that awareness is the key modulator here, if we can prioritise awareness over these other sensations then we can have a greater span over what interests we’re going to provide our muscle exertion. And that’s how I’d put it, choosing what muscles ones going to turn on and flex as opposed to “oh I feel shame how do I get rid of this?”. Nah to me its just awareness that its there, moving through it and focusing on the activation of more empowering chemicals that lead to actions which will in the end reduce the sense of shame because you’ve grown past it. Find the source of the shame sure, map its patterns, question and be mindful of the various ways it activates sure, realise that its not you, its just a pattern of activation at that moment in time that you can influence towards another end if you want. Let’s take the example of the feeling of fear, “Okay I’m feeling fear at the moment, this fear is presently disabling my other capabilities, I’m noticing the fear, I can sense where its coming from, but I remember the importance of pushing on the activation of other chemicals where I down regulate chemicals that create fear and up regulate chemicals relating to courage.” This can be done as well, nearly any self control exercise will improve your capacities here. COMPARISON: What also helps me I find is comparison of struggle, for example I find weight training a great boost to other activities because the struggles I have here are far more difficult than resisting the temptations of some food or whatever, this is why its important to push yourself. When you push yourself beyond a pain point and you appropriately generalise its utility across all other potential points of suffering, you’ve just increased your capacity to handle any other form of suffering. So I make it a habit to push myself in pretty much everything. Life here is a game of strength versus weakness in many ways, because if we reduced all of our strength for example we wouldn’t even be air molecules as H2O has to exist at the cost of something else. This is why I love looking at my body-mind in this way because not only do I think its more accurate, its got great utility for improving my strength to weakness ratio (because that's where my mind immediately focuses), which is of course all relative. It helps objectivity and objectivity will help one moving through this sort of struggle.

For me its like, see pain as a teacher not for something to therapise yourself over until you're like "oh I feel good now" To me that's BS propaganda that's being pedaled to the masses to make them feel better. Pain is my friend, I say fuck those who see it as masochistic, they're misinformed. ALL aspects of existence are teachers to me so why should pain be any different? Once someones relationship with pain changes to this end their ability to grow as a human being will do a complete 180. There isn't enough time in life not to have this kind of relationship with pain, we've all got a lot of growing, expanding and evolving to do. Sometimes you can't just walk around the wall, simple tricks that people who prey on other peoples weaknesses sell, you gotta go through it! Even if you crack your head open, if that's what truly needs to be done then to me its got to be done! There's a zero excuses policy when it comes to pain, all excuses are subtle ways that the mind tries to make you avoid that pain. I am the devil, me as a human being, thus my greatest actualisation will come in facing pain and being triumphant over my regular human condition. Peace out
-
For me its just: 1. transcendence 2. synthesis 3. reorganisation It might be too advanced for some people though but I won't make guesses as to where you are. Reality is the hardest thing for a human experiencing negative emotions but to the degree that they can continually get themselves to stare back at the dragon that has awoken from the fire trying to bring them down, they will be a slayer which will inevitably result in their triumph. Run across the hot coals, even better, gently walk across them with a grit in your teeth just to show it can't bring you down. Remember that triumph has many positive benefits associated with it, its like muscle training, you get stronger the more reps you do.

Apex predator mentality. But for the creation of the good and destruction of the evil. There's literally no other better mentality I've found when it's well balanced. What is the apex predator mentality? - pure aggression and purely strategic = so aggression isn't used un-strategically - long term view - purely purposeful and goal achievement orientated - creative, adaptable and resilient in the completion of ends Add more.

Another: Time is more important than force. So many people go to the gym once to a few times and workout for like 2+ hours and then give up after a week, all that effort then becomes for nothing. This applies to so many other areas. You gotta create a vision for your actualisation (derived from step 2 and envisioned in step 3 described above) then hold that firmly in mind constantly improving it via good feedback from reality and good interpretations of that feedback.
-
Steps: 1. Transcendence 2. Synthesis (of perceived informational constituents) 3. Actualisation 4. Be relentless in that actualisation
-
Just had an epiphany - thinking axiomatically, is to think in the exact way God would have thought to bring about this reality the way it is (self consistency --> as self consistency is to axiomatic consistency). If the idea of God is real to me it seems like this is how God would have been able to create everything that he (for lack of a better word), that is, from an axiomatically self consistent framework - thus to me, this is how I must work to think from now on with respect to my actions, this is how God would have wanted it I believe, to be his highest reflection in this way. Its why you could argue logic works, logic only works because it works axiomatically and things work axiomatically because this structure is consistent with how reality itself came to be otherwise we'd be talking about how some other kind of structure through some other kind of means presently unimaginable to us is reflective of reality in lieu of us being a reflection of reality and being able to use that structure in reality with more success than any other structure we can conceive of. Anyhow, again feel free to post your ideas for a discussion to emerge.
-
Just an idea I was thinking of that would be good to get feedback on: 3. Axiomatically you have to be completely and absolutely obsessed - this means the process you go through and derive reasons from as a part of your justification for various actions you take has to be reasoned to your utmost capacity 3A. One of those axioms I'd argue would be an incredible obsession with self actualisation, especially one core aspect therein: - raising your consciousness (and again, utterly obsessed in trying to do so to the best of your ability) From my perspective, these seem like "absolute yes's" but maybe its at least partly related to personality disposition, there's a bias there I gotta recognise, so in saying that I'd contextualise these two/three insights based on the profile of the person and their environment. I'll leave that there though as I'd like to hear other peoples ideas.
-
When you're around people practice using empathy and overtime you'll get better and better at adapting there. When you're in that "state" which I've been in and so I've puzzled over a similar thing you gotta remember that people are perceiving you from the perspective of their own brain state at that moment in time. Unfortunately we're not going to be able to get away with zoning out while interacting with others haha, that's just not how interactions work, we're meant to be zoning IN to the frequency that is being created between us then adapting from there as the moment goes on

I encourage you to argue against my statements @Scholar, that's the spirit! Arguing, even just internally with yourself or externally whichever you prefer, will help your own path . Well, you gotta base it on something otherwise you're just relying on instinct. I believe in instinct, I use it often, but I know that it has many limitations. Thinking in the moment is what increases the potential for undesired chaos, thinking in advance and learning from those lessons moment to moment is what allows us to transcend limits that would have been imposed on us due to the cognitive present bias threshold hypothesis. The cognitive present bias threshold hypothesis is a termed I’ve coined to describe the limitations we have in our capacity to make decisions in the moment versus decisions based on training for that moment. There’s literally no comparison. The training that police, fire fighters, SAS and so on go through is something we should analogously apply to all life situations. This requires us to invent overtime these maps as opposed to just relying on what we’re taught by any one organisation we’re a part of. Training trains otherwise good instincts to be great, lack of training increases the likelihood that otherwise great instincts can sometimes have really bad consequences due to fatal mistakes. These mistakes can be understood through the lens of the cognitive present bias threshold hypothesis. Good stuff! -

I know this because I've experienced it personally but I think people probably have a lot of problems on this subject for ego reasons, for example objectively people should end my life over someone else's if they had to choose and it was the case that this other person was going to provide more value to the environment. I would encourage it. There's a lot of value to go through these thoughts experiments actually, it makes me realise the importance of doing as best as we can to map and contemplate the constituents of reality so we're always monitoring and trying to improve the effectiveness of our decisions. It reveals the importance of not just knowledge and its accumulation, but contemplation of that knowledge so that we can arrive at higher degrees there. To me, again just to me, we all need to do our best at trying to become like generals, but not just for humanity, for existence/reality itself. The battle field is the entirety of reality, and becoming a general is the effort of trying to improve our understanding of reality as much as possible because a good general here makes decisions that are in line with reality, not our subjective preferences that we haven't even properly thought about nor experienced enough contrast in reality in order for those preferences to be a true reflection of our potential.
