Look. I can’t say for sure. All the stuff I said is just my own intuition / feelings, so I could be wrong. But it’s hard not to get those vibes from the whole story. I don’t think she was “pressured”, I just think as a young, white Christian mother that’s what she “expected” life to be like and couldn’t conceive of an alternative. When this suburban dream life turned out to be existentially empty though, she turned to “mental health issues” as a way to cope/find meaning and ended up taking that WAY too far. Also, I suspect a degree of narcissism / psychopathy in her too. I mean, a mother would have to be to genuinely murder their own kids and make up a whole random story about psychosis etc to do so. There’s genuinely a lot of spiritual rot in “idyllic America” and I feel this case is just a symptom of that. Again though these are all just my feelings. I could be wrong, although I have time imagining why else she would, you know, strangle her kids to death.

She never had a “psychotic episode” up until this attack. She deliberately told her husband to go on a long errand run to have enough time to go through with the murders. She deliberately, ONE BY ONE, brought her children down to the basement and strangled them. When one of the children RAN AWAY she was lucid enough to CHASE THEM DOWN and finally kill them. During all this she ANSWERED A PHONE CALL from her husband and calmly gave him more directions. No one who has a psychotic break is in control enough to do any of that. Not to mention that psychotic people are usually a greater danger to themselves than they are to anyone else. Having a psychotic episode doesn’t turn you into the Joker from Batman, masterfully enacting some murderous grand plan; it turns you into a babbling mess high out of your fucking mind completely naked in the living room crying about how your asshole maths teacher tried to eat you in your dreams. I genuinely have no idea how anyone could look at this evidence and conclude she was genuinely psychotic. It seems way more likely that she made it all up to deal with her own emotional bullshit and found a catchy way to excuse her murders.

What do you even want from Palestinians at this point? The logical end point of your argument is that Palestinians (and Jordanians, and Lebanese etc) should just roll over and take it. Should they just abandon these regions that they have thousands of years of history on so a handful of far-right Israeli Zionists can be placated? If that happens, what’s stopping India from taking over Pakistan? Or China taking over Taiwan? Or hell, Germany taking over Alsace? Since the end of WWII humanity has operated (broadly speaking) on the principle that nations can’t unilaterally invade and take over other nations because they feel like it. It has meant a lot of frustrates nationalists, yes, but on the whole it has led to the greatest period of peace, trade and global cooperation in human history. No one is denying the reality on the ground of the shortcomings of Palestinian culture or material power differentials, but so what? There should be more to geopolitical affairs than “might makes right.”

This may be true but it’s only because Palestine has suffered nearly a full century of abuse, oppression, humiliation and massacres at the hands of the Israelis. You abuse any group long enough and eventually theyll lash out. I mean shit, look at Egypt or Syria. These countries have very similar cultures to the Palestinians, yet for the most part they’re much less desperate and radical precisely because they haven’t been humiliated for so long. I mean Syria itself has just gone through a brutal 15 year civil war yet even that wasn’t enough to break their spirit, because at the end of the day they managed to keep their country while Palestinians didnt. It’s basically unimaginable how humiliating the Palestinians feel. Even highly troubled counties like Nigeria have a greater sense of dignity than they do, despite the amount of ethnic tensions, corruption etc in their country. What Israelis put Palestinians through each day is twisted.
