Jesus ALWAYS knew who He was. He was, and always shall be God incarnate. He is the only begotten Son of God - begotten but not made. His disciples did NOT make up their accounts about Him dying for us sinners, and then being raised back to life 3 days later. THEY WERE ACTUAL WITNESSES OF WHAT HAD HAPPENED. Jesus told Thomas that he had already seen the Father because He and the Father were one. They and the Holy Spirit are the Elohim of God. Jesus no more means I AM than the statement "I am Andrea (or Andrew)" means "I am GOD", which I'm not. I am a son of God because I believe in He who died for me who is the Christ.

Abrakamowse, People 'neglect' the illusory world because it doesn't actually exist! True actualization cannot be securely anchored in make-believe, but in reality. Meditatively reading the teachings of Jesus Christ and His apostles are a good place to start, plus keenly observing the things that are going on around you through your five natural senses. Active engagement with others is also very important. All these things shall reveal to you your true self. We grow through interpersonal relationships, and not insularity. That's actualization.
