  1. I think this is really fascinating to hear an analysis of human intellectual pursuits from an “outsider’s” perspective. And the question of where AI fits into human ethics is a valid one.
  2. Yeah, no. I get it, though. I used to think like you. Like if I could just gather all the facts and make the most comprehensive, unassailable argument against the need for religion, then people would have no choice but to end it because there’s no way to refute how unnecessary it is. Easy peasy! Here’s the catch: 1. Feelings don’t care about facts. If the fact doesn’t feel right, it’s not a good fact. Beliefs are nice and comforting for religious people, and facts that go against those beliefs are the evil machinations of the devil. Thus, easily ignored at best and fought against with a lot of self-righteous passion at worst. 2. Feelings are valid. Always. To say otherwise would mean there’s some threshold to reach that determines whether or not a feeling is satisfactory, and that you know where that is so that you can dismiss any feelings that don’t cross the threshold. For anybody. Including yourself. Which means you’re completely honest and without bias. Please. So just because I’ve learned to live my life without the comfort and protection of some dumb infinite, eternal security blanket doesn’t give me the right to take it away from anyone who still needs it. That would just make me another asshole in the world.
  3. Faith is an expression of love. It also makes life simpler. There is inherent meaning and purpose to life with goals to strive for. Is it silly to have faith? Sure. It’s literally make believe. But it’s also silly to remove faith. Billions of people would have nothing to live for without it.
  4. Step outside of yourself, @Husseinisdoingfine. You aren’t thinking clearly because of your ego. Everything seems highly consequential and seems to jeopardize your survival when you have your blinders on. You have so many options available.
  5. Everything. Everywhere. All at once. And nothing. Nowhere. Never.
  6. @Leo Gura Did you specify what you want to discuss, or keep it vague?
  7. Cool! I voted for her in 2016 for the same reason.
  8. Ah yes, the two-letter caveat.
  9. What’s a worse outcome: Trump as a martyr, or Trump as a president? I’m glad he’s neither right now.
  10. I don’t believe in solipsism, I believe in reality.
  11. What are the odds that Nahm’s forum gained a member of the same name shortly after OP was banned?
  12. I’ve been living alone since 2018, and it’s great!
  13. That fear is valid and comes from past experiences, but you should keep it in the past. Have the courage to stay in the present and stop bringing the past with you.
  14. First girlfriend. I realized being single isn’t so bad.
  15. There are a couple offering at least 5%. I’m wondering what effect the Capital One/Discovery merger will have.
  16. Cool! I like the first song he played, too. I often wonder how different the neighborhoods I grew up in will look these days.
  17. Yup………I was in community college 3 years. Only half of the credits transferred, and I did poorly in the university. I have 2 Associate’s degrees and a Bachelor’s degree, though. And, of course, the debt that comes along with them. I started at the community college 2 weeks after I graduated high school, and I left the university at 26. Didn’t get my degree for another year because I had to retake a final and finalize everything with the thesis office. Let’s just say I don’t look back fondly on my life between the ages of 18 and 28.
  18. Awareness is the boundary. It is why the finite cannot grasp the infinite. There is always more outside awareness. There is everything else.
