  1. You’re a CEO? What’s your business? When did you start? Is that your earnings after all overhead costs are accounted for? Most importantly, is this something you’re passionate about?
  2. The selfishness of humanity is what brought this about. The extinction of species, the tons of of pollutants of various kinds disrupting various parts of natural cycles, the ever-looming threat of nuclear obliteration if someone in possession of a nuclear device doesn’t care about the consequences anymore, and the massive backlash against life-saving measures to slow the spread of a very contagious virus. The ease with which information is spread means that all these issues are not caused by ignorance, but by apathy. But at the same time, misinformation spreads just as easily. A “doom and gloom” outlook is definitely unappealing, but arguably necessary to slow the increase of negative effects that the selfishness of humanity has brought about.
  3. I’m very sorry to hear that euthanasia is being discussed. It is the ultimate means of reducing suffering and should only be used when every method of treatment has been tried with no success. What kind of life is someone living when there isn’t a requisite variety of ways to help them want to remain living? It’s so sad and unfortunate.
  4. If playing the violin doesn’t make you happy, you don’t have to continue. There are plenty other hobbies and career choices. I know I disappointed some family members when I stopped playing my french horn, but it stopped making me happy during college. When it turns from something you get to do into something you need to do, stop.
  5. 1. Be aware of the current zeitgeist. 2. Have an idea of how to change society. 3. Have oodles of charisma. The ideas one has don’t necessarily have to be realistic. They just need to sound good to lots of people.
  6. There’s a LOT of thinking here that storks don’t have the time or brain capacity for. Beyond pure survival (hot, cold, hungry, gotta migrate, gotta have sex and raise offspring), I doubt there’s even a subjective experience to be had.
  7. It’s a matter of perspective, and changes depending on the context. Ignorance can be blissful, and ignorance can be severely damaging.
  8. Owning and maintaining a home/property is a separate part-time job you take on and pay out the ass for. No thank you.
  9. Is it the fact that he talks about God, or something else?
  10. The UN and the EU are the closest we have right now. Would either of them be here without WWII happening first? Selfishness and fighting come before selflessness and cooperation. And the UK still left the EU for selfish reasons anyhow!
  11. Every tree that has ever fallen with people near enough to hear it has made a sound. No people means no perception of sound from the tree falling, but it doesn’t mean no sound is made.
  12. @Javfly33 I switched to this shift January last year.
  13. Having a social life outside of a night shift work schedule is a fucking struggle. Even without a lockdown and social distancing restrictions. Everything feels so forced, because it won’t happen unless you make it happen.
  14. Hedonism is just a concept. Afterlife is just a concept. Nobody can tell you how to live. What feels true to you?
  15. Given the axiom that life is suffering, the root cause is God. Not God in any confined religious context, but infinite consciousness.
  16. Ok, Jewish Space Laser Girl...
  17. DDLG is definitely a thing. It’s not figurative language. It’s the actual relationship dynamic.
  18. We’ve already had quite a bit of interesting times lately...
  19. That’s how Victor Frankenstein did it. But really, there is no problem of consciousness. It’s the requirement for rigorous empirical evidence-based proof of the arising of consciousness from a lack of consciousness which is a problem for some. It’s very unscientific to say something like “God did it” or “It’s eternal and uncaused”. Consciousness is not a problem. Proving its beginning is.
  20. The map of physics is a complex and very reliable model for the territory of reality. It’s still just a map. It’s all made up, and not reality.
