The only drawback I've seen from psychedelics is its hard to integrate the insights you get on them into your everyday life. Like it shows you everything about the universe but eventually it wears of and you can't quite remember exactly what it was you got shown when you come back down. Whereas a few monks or people who have a very dedicated practice seem to be able to have access to these insights on demand. I can't say for 5meo however as I've never tried it or know anyone personally to have done it. Is 5meo different where you actually keep some of your insights a few months after the trip? -

One other way to look at it is if you want a truly happy life then you will need to fully understand the nature of your own mind, working your projects won't do that for you, doing a 10 day retreat will be very eye opening. Its only 10 days, thats not very long at all. If you take it seriously when you go it will probably be the biggest gift you could ever give yourself. It shouldn't even be a debate. The main thing you want to be careful of however is your mental state, a course like vipassana you do have to be quite emotionally stable and balanced as it can be very intense. So as long as you feel ready emotionally, then defo go. All of my friends who have become very successful financially and materialistically all want to now give it all up and go live in a monastery and work on enlightenment full time ahaha. So that should tell you something. -
Dose anyone on this forum have any plans on becoming a monk? What are your opinions on becoming a monk. I think it is actually an amazing thing to do, working full time on enlightenment and not harming a soul in the process, well of course there are cases of monks doing bad things but a good step in right direction. I don't think I would every fully ordain myself but definitely would like to live with monks for a long period. Especially when I get older.

There is that, but surely you would make way more progress there then living at home. There are places you can go where you are on silent retreat 24/7 -

Mind you, you can plant seeds. Very small bits of truth that may lead them onto wanting more, sneaky but hell we all want to be at peace. I realised if you wanna drag people to heaven they will be kicking and screaming the entire ride. -

Yeah you will be fighting a loosing battle, a mind has to be ready to be woken up you can't force it. The best thing you can do leading by example, show then through your actions and your presence. If you start to live a very peaceful and fulfilled life people will want it. I learned this the hard way, it just freaks people out. -

Tbf if you resonate with them and get value from them go with them who am I to say otherwise I guess. Did you have skypes with them? how was it? Tony Robbins defo is a living embodiment of productivity and personal development, also his old assistant teacher peter sage is good he's like Leo, mixed in higher consciousness with personal development. he did go to prison tho because of a contempt of court so research into that. might put you off jocko willink helped me the most with productivity, his book discipline equals freedom is great. -

All three mentioned above are just people on the path sharing there journey, I wouldn't call them advanced teachers yet there are so young and have so much learning and evolving to still do. I view Leo as more of a pal on the path trying to support others with similar interests. I don't want to discredit what they do though as it is good but real masters are very hard to come by, I view people like Sadguru, Rupert spira ect as people I can actually trust with advice as they will be speaking more from experience rather than just knowledge they have read or heard. I once lived with a famous self help speak from youtube, I use to look up to him a lot but and he was just as messed up as the normal person when I actually got to know him. probably best to go seek out and meet these people and see if they are the real deal. I've met Rupert Spira many times and can verify he is the real deal. haven't met Sadguru yet so I o need to meet him tbf Anyone can get a camera and start spewing out advice.Be careful is all I'm saying. -

How do you know this based on forum posts, surely you would have to know him personally and actually spend time in his presence to start making judgements like that. -

@tsuki Yes we can just become aware of them, I guess this is what is meant by the world is maya -

Sorry don't quite follow what you mean? I mean to say did the past even happen, as all we know of it is through our thoughts, how do we know that thoughts just appear about the past but the past never actually took place in the first place. -

I guess one way to look at it is lets say i cut myself, I will have a scar and a memory of the event of cutting myself. So the scar is evidence of cutting myself, but how do i know for sure, because the scar could of just appeared in the present moment and so could the thought of the memory of cutting myself and that would be enough for me to believe it actually happened? -

Sorry I thought you were talking about his old self improvement videos, I understand what you mean now. -
noselfnofun replied to FoxFoxFox's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
Funny you made this post I recently watched some of his older videos today. I actually think they are great, there not as deep as his videos of enlightenment but they are still very relevant. People need alot of help before they are even ready to take on the path of enlightenment. He also comes across a lot more humble in his earlier videos -

Sorry to hear about this man, I hope you start to feel better soon. I am currently going through an ego backlash at the moment so can relate to you. How long and how intensely have you been doing spiritual practices? When you go through what feels like a mini crisis it generally will be some form of ego backlash one way or the other. But if you start to feel like you are loosing control it might be worth toning down on any spiritual practices or stopping them and just focusing on getting yourself back to a more centred place. I would start concentrating on the basics of self improvement to get some balance again. Will be hard but start eating as clean as you can, see if you can spend time with positive people, go do some exercise try and avoid bad behaviours like the internet binging, television, porn, bad food ect, journal your thoughts and see if you can re-frame any negative ones and like Winterknight has said see a good therapist. Also see if you can pinpoint why you might be feeling this way? has something traumatic happened to you recently? -

Yeah interesting I'll check that out. Yeah exactly I think before we start judging people or teachers best to actually meet them and see for our own eyes. Same goes for the rumours about Mooji. I know someone who is obsessed with Mooji and dose not even know him, I could totally see how one of his crazy followers could make alot of stuff up about him. -

Really? What makes you think that, I would say Thich Nhat Hanh is one of the most compassionate. -

I really doubt an truly enlightened yogi would even be worried about death or cancer, they know they can never die, just the body. Worrying about this stuff is just being very attached to the body, you should for sure try and live a healthy life but overcoming the fear of death is just as important. I defo need to work on this as I am very health conscious but its revolved around the fear of death. there is that famous Ramana quote when his devotes pleaded with him to try and find a cure for his cancer "Why are you so attached to this body? Let it go", and "Where can I go? I am here -

If your totally dead set on doing it solo then you prob could do it by building up to it by starting of with 5 days then 10, then a month, then 3 months ect. Leo struggled to do 30 days last time and he has a good amount of experience, there is great retreats you can go to all around the world and I think you would be way less likely to leave. -
noselfnofun replied to Peo's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
if you build up to it it won't be, but your main problem will be trying to do it solo, so easy to just quit. Would be better to do it at a monastery, as you will be surrounded by a nurturing environment. -
noselfnofun replied to Peo's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@Peo I'm thinking of doing this but for two years, probably in a monastery. People spend there whole lives doing this its not actually as a big of a deal as you might think. defo go and do a few smaller retreats and build up to see if you would be able to cope with the lifestyle of it. I got the idea of doing this when on my first ten day retreat years ago, I saw the potential of completely dedicating yourself to this, you really start to build alot of momentum. What I am thinking of doing is before I go start living like a monk for a month or two but whilst still having a job, then go off for a three month retreat, then go for two years. It will be very challenging but worth it -
noselfnofun replied to Anton_Pierre's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
Yes its possible and there are people who have done it like the monks people have shared. there is even certain meditative states where you do not experience pain such as the 3 or 4th jhana or a deep samadhi state. You should never purposely hurt yourslef but how you deal with pain is a good yard stick in measuring how well your progressing in your meditation practice. Its crazy to think this is even possible and not more wide spread, I guess it takes alot of effort.
