As I've said on another thread you simply have to take responsibility as if you were God, in other words to decide what you would do if you had unlimited power. In your imagination you do. This cuts out the nonscense of wondering if you are god because you are actually being proactive rather than navel gazing. Be warned though it takes you down a very big rabbit hole if you understand what to do. -

Don't worry I already did that -

You have to ask your brain to stop thinking. This is not easy, it requires an act of will to do this. If you can still line your thoughts then you will start to get results. The best way to do this is to simply stare at the image you see with your eyes shut for a long time and to concentrate on it. Note the image you see with your eyes shut is a non physical image. -

Your going to have to be more precise with your language. To use an analogy the devil is an unlimited object because he is capable of good and evil. "God" is perfect and cannot commit evil. In other words god limits himself/herself to be perfect. Perfection is a subset of all possible things. So what would you do with that freedom if you were god? Would you be a demogog? Would you be a just god? Would you try and create life? If you did would you make that life lesser or equal to you? How would you pass the time? your answer tells me you have'nt really given it any real thought. Its not a question that you can give a trivial answer to. -

When you go to sleep your brain produces a different sort of temporal measurement and stops when you wake up. This is why you have continuity of experience during your life, i.e your life is one continuous experince. I once meditated straight into a dream state and it was quite a surreal. This different form of measurement is much more extreme than what we experience during waking moments. -

I'll explain where its limiting. 1) An unlimited entity is incapable of keeping its word because its unlimited and to keep its word limits it, this is quite a serious problem 2) An unlimited entity is incapable of making an absolute choice because to make an absolute choice limits it, hence it can only make transient choices A sensible "god" limits itself very carefully over time from committing acts of a) stupidity and b) gross evil. Its still an unlimited object in one sense but should always be limiting its behavior more and more over time. As a tip I suggest that rather than talking about "god" you actually ask yourself what you would do if you were god. Depending on how seriously you take that and what you decide you would do in that circumstance will determine how quickly you leave the mire of stupid beliefs. -

The universe just reflects your belief back at you like a mirror. Hence why you are where you are. -

Personally I think its more about breaking circles than staying in one. Circular behavior is not something to strive for. A spiral is a better metaphor. -

Gods just a state of mind but a very limiting one at that -

You probably reincarnate until you work out where you want to go next, otherwise your just stuck in limbo. -

If you can visualaize for example the whole universe or per say an infinite object then you would have proof that your an infinite object. It can be done with practice. -

All that happens is that your brain measures time in a very different way when you fall asleep. No mystery to it. The dreams you have in the morning are a reflection of this different measurement. -

Ok well when you talk about looking for yourself what your really talking about is looking for your ideal self. This is not the self you were born with but rather like a self you can construct as you would a character in your favorite computer game, that's the simple truth to that riddle. You have to create what your looking for. Next just assume that you are a god rather than trying to work out how to become one. You have a space which is your imagination over which you have an infinite amount of power and by understanding this you can start to understand what you want and how to get their. Best advice is to try and construct a basic universe in your imagination, try to imagine a few basic laws and such and go from their Be warned though going down this route is bound to lead to extreme insanity but alot of fun and insight. -

My opinion is a bit different about memory. I tend to think its something to do with the space we see when we have our eyes shut. Memory is to my mind not quite like say for example a disc that I can access, its not really physical and I don't think that the space we see with our eyes shut is either. I can spend alot of time just looking at this space in darkness and there is alot of structure that does not seem physical there. Sometimes I can't even get to sleep because the image I see with my eyes shut is so intense. It seems more like I am looking at, for lack of a better word my imagination which contains my memory. Note that this is something you don't really learn from meditation you actually have to learn how to focus on this space and to actually see whats there without actually trying to project anything into it. As a simple test shut your eyes in darkness and treat the space you see like an etcher sketch. Try tracing a line with your mind by just imagining it. Now you should see a faint line in that space where you imagined it. It will disappear quite quickly. However that indicates that the space reacts to what we think about so perhaps memories are stored there. -

What I'm trying to demonstrate is a property of infinity which is that one infinity is equal to another infinity. Why is this, because they are both unlimited in scope. If I have an unlimited quantity I can make it equal to another unlimited quantity regardless of what that quantity is, i.e spirit or information or mass or whatever. Any infinity can be equal to absolute infinity because one infinity can contain everything that any infinity you can define in itself. If you getting confused with Cantorian madness i.e that some infinities are greater than others then I'm sorry to say it but Cantor is wrong about this, you can disprove him with geometry. There is no absolute infinity that is greater than other infinity they are all the same size. -

Not really. Take the number line 1 to infinity. Now I can put these numbers in a list. This is one infinity. However I can take the powers of say a prime number and create another infinite list. As there are an infinite number of prime numbers I can create an infinite number of infinite lists to use an analogy. Hence I can create an infinite number of equal infinities to the one I started with without any canceling out at all. Furthermore it is possible to image an infinite object and have something outside it. You do this simply by measuring say for example a meter as a point and this truncates the image into something finite. Furthermore you seem to be thinking of a zero balance, i.e something canceling out to zero. Its better to think of a 1 balance. A 1 balance works differently to a zero balance. Take the fractions 1/2 and 1/3. Now 1/2 is greater than 1/3 but if we turn these fractions upside down we get 2/1 and 3/1 and the heirachey reverses. Furthermore 1/2x2/1 and 1/3x3/1 both equal 1 hence a 1 balance. Zero balances just leave you with err well nothing so its better to think of 1 balances instead for determining the ground of being. -

Its not equal to nothing, I don't know where you get that idea from. Its an unlimited quantity dividing itself into more unlimited quantities but these are all equal to each other hence no one god nonsense -
bennett oppel replied to NorthNow's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
A short cut to get through the nonsense is to simply ask your self the question what you would do if you were god or rather a god. Don't bother trying to ask questions about becoming god because that just goes around and around in a circle. If you do try and take that question seriously though then you'll go down a very big rabbit hole. I was meditating for a month before I went down that path and then had a transcendental experience that was quite profound and since then those experiences have not stopped and that was about 20 years ago. Be warned though it is not for the light hearted -

Whats limiting those gods is each other. Two infinite objects relative to each other appear finite to each. If I was infinitely big and you were finite then you would be none existent compared to me. If however you were also infinitely big then I would appear finite to you and you also to me. There is no one god that we are just puppets of. We are just infinities who coexist and hence relative to each other we seem finite. In dreams however this is different because then we are experiencing as if we were one god so to speak, especially if its a lucid dream, however in the universe we share we are limits to each other even though we are infinite in some ways. The idea that there is one god is a nonsence, it implies its just one entity playing with itself and hence one infinity. A much richer picture is an infinity of infinities but this is inherantley more complicated. Its a straw man to say there's one god because then you have to explain suffering and such. All that's happening is that the infinite is dividing up into more infinities, i.e us. -
bennett oppel replied to Gadasaa's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
I don't think its a case that the self is a paradox, far from it. People who think in terms of god are to my mind still stuck in hierarchical thinking with god somehow above them and them down below. God to me seems like a rather infantile construct as a result. My line of thinking is that we are all unlimited entities in some way but as we have to coexist in the same reality we are limits to each other. The only reason that reality seems the way it is to us is because we are each unlimited but relative to each other we are not. In my imagination I can think of turning someone into an apple for example but they probably won't want that to happen and hence it does not, in other words that persons unlimited nature is a limit to my unlimited nature. This is a much more complicated state than believing its all one consciousness or one god experiencing itself. This might have been a past state in universal terms but its more one that's akin to a juvenile existence than anything else compared to whats going on now now. It might be that this was the original infinity for lack of a better word but now we are dealing with an infinite number of infinities and that's a higher state than the previous one .The self therefore is an attempt to find a place alongside other entities, something to construct rather than debunk. A oneness based on individual entities bonding through mutual respect and trust is much better than some mythical field connecting us which would be an absolute nightmare if you gave it any real thought.
