It is depression caused by the mind's inadequacy to figure out enlightenment... yet the mind calls it the dark night of the of the soul, effectively shifting blame.

@andyjohnsonman No matter how accurate the analogy, it doesn't matter if it's not your paradigm. Understanding with the mind is pointless and frankly impossible.

@moon777light That pain is awareness contracting. It's the physical sensation of identifying with awareness, or owning it to say it in different words. That pain will go away only when the "I" goes out the window. If you observe your body, there is an uneasy, anxious sensation in your sternum. It's only there if you identify with the body.

@moon777light No, being still despite of the mind. It really doesn't matter what the mind does so long as you are watching it and are not identifying with it. The watcher itself has to be dis-identified with at some point (it will disappear along with the sense of person-hood).

@moon777light The point is to merge with awareness, that is to totally stop believing in the stories the mind comes up with. You have to become one with awareness, and that happens when the mind does not produce even the notion of there being someone who is merging. The length of the practice is less important than the intensity of desire for liberation.

@moon777light You've already realized that awareness cannot be found as an object. That's more than most people realize in a life time, so congratz! A quiet mind is not the objective of self-inquiry. A quiet mind is really a side-effect of Self-realization. The point of the practice is to reveal the nature of the "I" as illusion, and subsequent dis-identification with that.

Pay extra attention to where he is "I-am-ness" without there ever being someone who is the I-Am. That is the idea that one must go even beyond the subtlest of I-identification. You cannot stop at I am or I-I. You must go into voidbliss.

@Aakash Awareness shouldn't know itself AS awareness. Awareness is awareness. Like Jesus said, I am that I am. The best analogy is pulling back energy from thoughts and allowing it to merge back into your being. Peace is a better word to use instead of silence. Follow peace.

@Aakash Be that without there being someone who is. That someone can only be a subtle "I". You already are awareness, so get rid of all false identification. Even the thought "I am awareness" must go. Get rid of the one who wants to know. Get rid of the ones who conducts themselves. It is already your God nature who is doing all those things. Just bring it out of its hiding.

If you are interested in money more than self-realization, the smart thing to do would be to go and chase money. Once you made and if (only if) you are still unhappy, then come back here.
