There's a certain appeal to the military for those on the right because they're more likely to have a strong sense of nationalism and be willing to die for that cause. If you're in a war you'd be grateful to have the far right in your military, they're some of the toughest fighters.

For those living in authoritarian regimes anonymity is everything. There are tons of anon Chinese Twitter accounts calling out the bullshit of the Chinese government. This work can only be done anonymously.

It's super harmful to the progressive cause to label people they disagree with as transphobes, racists, sexists, etc. The cancel culture policy of the left is now causing a right wing backlash because these leftist views are too extreme for most of the population.

It's excessive stage green on the spiral dynamics model but I don't understand your model well enough to comment on that.

The same Germany that shut down all their nuclear power plants making them overly reliant on Russian energy and now having to switch on coal plants to keep the lights on? The same Germany that even now has learned zero lessons and is still seeking to shut down its nukes? These are perfect examples of left-wing idealism gone wrong.

@thisintegrated You're approaching this with a broad brush. China & the US are huge countries with a lot of diversity.

Hmm, I wouldn't agree. I dated a girl from Connecticut once, a very liberal girl, and she was the exact opposite of what you describe here. Edit: I'm British

I always get this with Chinese girls. I can attract 8s and 9s, they will cook for me, buy me gifts, and pay for meals. I must fit what is perceived as high value by Chinese women, that women of other cultures do not see. Worth noting that these Chinese girls tend to be wealthy, career-focused, and educated.

You might not care about politics but politics cares about you.

This is pretty normal of what I'd expect of a conservative. Fear of the enemy that goes a little too far. People on the left often go the other way in that they're naive of how foreign powers may take advantage of them, e.g. Europe's energy crisis.

This is generally what most western leftists say without having read a single paper on the topic.

I've had similar conversations to this with my stage green friend. She thinks I've become a racist right winger ?

You yourself understand the dangers of anarchy & libertarianism, therefore you ought to be wary of abolishing the myths that form the fabric of a strong state. -

You guys don't fully appreciate nation building and the necessary myths that keep nations alive. Without a nation there is anarchy, without the myth of the royal family there is no UK, without the royal family there is anarchy. -
Because that's how power works. The US has absolute control over the world's oceans, there is no competition. Russia, North Korea, Iran, and China have forgotten where power really lies. The danger of war arises if they believe they can win a war vs US & allies.

As we'd say in the UK: "he's alright I suppose", which means the same thing ? -

Yeah I watched this in the cinema and was absolutely blown away. One of the best films of all time. -
My belief is that China is only doing this to distract it's population from domestic issues. If you're about to invade somewhere you don't advertise your plans through military drills.

Radical feminists can be in many stages really, need to know more about their other traits

@Jannes Nope, I've also done solid research into the nutrition. Painting me as someone that doesn't understand the science is what others here have tried when appealing to authority. It's true it might not be good for everyone, but I don't know anybody who eats red meat who feels bad after eating it. I actually wish it wasn't true that red meat is good for you, it would make things easier regarding the environment and the ethical dilemma. My bias is to say that plant foods are good for you which I tried for several years until I learned about nutrition.
-
I do the science myself from my own experience. You're right though, I cannot 100% guarantee that I'm not missing something and I won't get some illness related to my red meat consumption. Then I don't think our viewpoints are much apart
-
I don't think the Chinese would do anything. They understand the US & allies have a superior navy in the Pacific. This looks more like tough saber rattling to draw nationalist public support. The risk is if the CCP are forced to take military action to avoid appearing weak to their own people.
-
Your appeal to authority is just desperate at this point. I'm not anti science, the science on nutrition is simply poor and littered with biases. Whether you're vegan, carnivore, or in-between you could easily find "science" that fits your narrative. It's a difficult pill for stage green people to swallow; that red meat is good for you, because they desperately don't want it to be true for ethical reasons.
-
@undeather Your trust in institutions and science is strong I see, I understand I have been there. Consider 1) funding flows for science, and 2) scientists own self biases The evidence that red meat is good for you is not only the fact our ancestors ate it, you just simply need to read the nutritional labels. Don't get caught up in science that fits your bias, just read the damn food labels. Notice how in your own experience you feel better and strong eating meat too.
