  1. I don't think people making these decisions were stage green. More likley it was an ugly mixture of stage blue US nationalism and xenophobia mixed with stage orange hunger for endless profit by US coorporations, oil lobies and arms supliers. Actuall stage green US politicians have pretty much no political power since they are a small minority. I think spiral dynamics are a viable model here, but always keep in mind that it's only a model and not reality itself.
  2. It's pretty funny how in one way the far-right hates islam because it's an alien culture to the west. But in a way they still recognize that it's a deep stage blue value system and is something they themselves desire. I feel that they are a little bit jelous. Being deep stage blue in 2022 must be kinda lonley in the west. Even the mainstream church seems like a liberal feminst organisation at that level.
  3. @Phil777 I don't think that anyone here wants you to abandon your ideals all together. Rather than that, to re-think the methods of approaching them and choosing the right time and place for them. Political parties such as Die Linke are quite a good example. These kinds of stage green parties tend to be very good-hearted and are some of the more highly developed parties out there. Despite their support for the working class, their voter base is typically made up of highly educated (stage-green) metropolitan residents. Why is that? It's because they are stage green people doing stage green stuff. This curses them to being forever stuck at around 10% support. So what they can do is either be victims and cry about the people are so racist and bigoted, or what they can do is rethink their approach and modify it in a way that will appeal to the stage blue/orange working folk base. And, yes, this may imply a reduction in veganism or some identity politics topic. But ultimately, if it would help them win elections it would allow them to actually get stuff done.
  4. I think that some of your disagreements come out of cultural differences. The thing is that if you took the European healthcare system and applied it to USA, it wouldn't work. Culture is a big problem. In Europe, we have public programs that encourage fitness; just basic urbanism is more walkable; people bike to work; they use public transport more. Every minute spent walking and not just sitting down in your car is a net positive for public health. We have way more regulation when it comes to food quality. Portion sizes are regulated, sugar is limited, for example our coke has less sugar. Food in general is much better quality, so even people who don't take care of their health at all are forced by the system to eat better. And just in general, people tend to eat better. It's a cultural thing. You can't buy deep-fried butter or sugar-glazed ham here. I remember trying to find a place that sells Mountan Dew, but there isn't any because it's too unhealthy you can't sell it here. I think that many Americans don't appreciate the complexity needed for a socialized health system to work. But I believe it's a worthwhile pursuit. Healthy people are happier and more productive. This makes it cheaper in the long term, but you should be aware that it's not as simple as throwing a bunch of money at hospitals. It will necessitate significant societal changes.
  5. I think we are in for interesting times. The world is ageing. There's going to be a lack of young people who can work. To some extent, migration can help, but I don't think it will be enough. The question is whether technology will be able to replace the young workforce. If it can, it's actually good for the environment that there are fewer people. If it can't, there could be some problems.
  6. I wonder if it has an effect on scaring criminals from committing crime. I remember the New Zealand Christchurch mosque shooter chose New Zealand for his killing spree because it didn't even have a lifetime sentence, let alone a death penalty. I suppose those people would probably still be alive if New Zeland had stricter punishments. The guy had a plan to get out eventually and take advantage of the compassionate system to spread his white supremacist message. It's a good thing they were able to change laws and find a way to keep him locked up forever. Still, my biggest problem with the death penalty is the potential for corruption. The question is whether killing one inocent person justifies giving those other tens of thousands of people what they deserve. Still, I can't argue that with the Christchurch shooter It's pretty obvious that he did it. The risk of killing an inoccent man is pretty much minimal. Although personally, if we speak of scarce resources, I think that it's more rational to just put them to work.
  7. This whole hair thing is so funny. I'm surrounded by people that happen to have shit hair in all kinds of ways. I never judged them or thought anything of it. But when I look at myself in the mirror that has really strong light, which makes my otherwise perfectly normal hairline look slightly weak, all of a sudden I panic and feel insecure.
  8. Depends, if you're with those kinds of people that are generaly interesed about humanaties it might be hard not to talk about topics like that. But with kinds of people that don't care about it even in the slightest it might be boring for them. Maybe try to do it a bit like slavoj zizek, with plenty of jokes that make it easy to understand. Try to bring it up in a jokey way like that, don't use strong words keep it simple. Just carefully watch their responses, if they don't like it it should be obvius, in that case don't try to force it.
  9. Of course, condolences to the family and all of that. But you have to recognize that the institution of monarchy has no place in the 21st century. Carrying her casket around the entire country in a massive public procession and arresting anyone who dares to voice criticism of the institution feels more like North Korea than a Western democracy. You can't make it a huge public event, ding it in front of everyone's noses, and expect no one to notice how ridiculous it is. That said, I'm curious what the future will bring. While Elizabeth was a PR master with little controversy to her name, the new King Charles and many others in the royal family are nothing like that. He's not very popular as he is. It seems like some red flags about his short temper are showing on the first day of his work. This might give some fuel to the pro-democracy, anti-Monarchie sentiment. Especially given the current state of affairs in the United Kingdom. Brexit, COVID, and now the energy shortage induced by the war have taken their toll on the British working class. If I were British and barely scraping by with long work hours, I wouldn't be thrilled to be paying for the extravagant lifestyle of that old hack King Charles.
  10. For a while I have been thinking about starting some yoga. Do you have any tips on how one should go about it, how do you find a good coach? How did you start, what helped you to be persistent?
  11. Is anyone here a member of any party or a political movement. Do you think active participation is worthwhile or just a waste of time?
  12. Playing with yourself is completely natural and healthy. Try to enjoy it, it's a great part of life. Personally I have tried to significantly reduce the amount of porn I consume and I think it's a good thing to do so. Playing just with yourself and not staring into a screen can often bring a much more rewarding orgasm.
  13. I think that Shapiro is very much orange and doesn't actually belive the shit he's spouting. Just does it for sponsor money.
  14. I think it's fair you call it out and say its bullshit. Of course don't neglect personal responsibility, but it's also important to honor your collective responsibility to improving society.
  15. In general yes. Although it's really stupid for 1st worlders to take the 3rd dose when most of the 3rd World can't get 1.
  16. @TK2021 just chill.
  17. He's not the worst, but keep in mind he's mainly an entertainer and gamer. Don't take that YouTube shit too seriously.
  18. I think there's some truth to nessesity of regulation of media consumption. We don't let kids smoke but it's not a problem to give them video games for limitless hours. It's time society takes collective responsibility for the harm that these games cause if overconsumed. I know it caused me a plenty of problems, especially for a little kid this shit is like a drug. You just can't stop playing. The problem I see with the CCP ban is that it's difficult to enforce, kids could just do some other stupid shit. But in general I support their efforts. Maybe there should be labels like on cigaretes warming about overconsumtion.
  19. I'm not a German. But on the Internet I have noticed pretty strong support for the AFD from far right circles, especially alt right neonazis. I seriously doubt that these deep blue circles would ever touch anything remotely green.
  20. The elections defenitly have some bias towards assad. Just the way the booths are decorated is clearly favoring him. Obviously it's wartime, in this conditions Western-like democracy is impossible. But regardless its reasonable to assume that he has the support of the majority. It makes sense for the wartime situations, most vocal opponents have probably already either directly opposed him or left the country. I definitely wish most adbove all that the war ends. Be it assad or anyone else, the most important thing for economic and personal development of Syrian people is peace.
  21. He lives in Iraq. We westerners are spoiled. Weather you have Trump or Biden your power will be on, you will have food and water, the police will be there to protect your property etc. For him a radical political change like Isis takeover would mean that the power will no longer be working or that he might even get killed by radical Islamists. Being apolitical is a 1st world privilege.
  22. I'm not afraid of COVID. I got vaccinated myself to protect my family and wider society. Lockdowns won't stop until we vaccinate enough of the population, and the more people are unvaccinated higher the risk of virus mutation. Currently vaccines are our only tool that can stop COVID. Either we all vaccinate and end COVID, or we live with it.
  23. SpaceX gets so much public subtities, it's hard to call it private initiative at this point. My god, you guys won the space race with a public company don't you renember that? Trumps whole thing was about running the country like a private buisniss. It was a disaster.
  24. I feel pretty good after doing it. Maybe it's the nofap mentality guilt tripping you.
