Question : Even plants have life. Ramana Maharshi : So too the slabs you sit on! Question : May we gradually get ourselves accustomed to vegetarian food? Ramana Maharshi : Yes. That is the way. Question : Is it harmless to continue smoking? Ramana Maharshi : No, for tobacco is a poison. It is better to do without it. It is good that you have given up smoking. Men are enslaved by tobacco and cannot give it up. But tobacco only gives a temporary stimulation to which there must be a reaction with craving for more. It is also not good for meditation practice. Question : Do you recommend that meat and alcoholic drinks be given up? Ramana Maharshi : It is advisable to give them up because this abstention is a useful aid for beginners. The difficulty in surrendering them does not arise because they are really necessary, but merely because we have become inured by custom and habit to them. Question : Generally speaking, what are the rules of conduct which an aspirant should follow? Ramana Maharshi : Moderation in food, moderation in sleep and moderation in speech. Question: Is it not killing life to prepare meat diet? Ramana Maharshi : Ahimsa [non-violence] stands foremost in the code of discipline for the yogis. ? -

@Bennn relatively there is right and wrong. You live in the world and should live the law of the land. You kill someone, you will be caught, convicted and punished accordingly. The clear cut natural guideline is that of LOVE. love for all. That will lead the way. Sure, for your survival you do things which aren't always of the highest Love but that's fine. -

This being SoonHei which appears as an other being in your subjective experience confirms that I have a subjective experience of my own. Of course reading this is not much help. But if your exp was the one and only, would that not be a very tiny mind vs infinite mind which dreams up an infinite experiences simultaneously? What you are is nothing. How many types of nothings can there be. Only one type. There's only ONE nothing which is everything and every experience simultaneously. "Experience" -

God is what is born as the one who after being born claims "i didn't ask to be born" It's rather he was born to say that God cast himself in a movie he wrote, directed, produced. God cast himself in all the roles. Like any game. There's a winning side and losing side. If God is playing both sides, he is the winning side and also the losing side, since he's both. -

@Raptorsin7 it's about surviving. About being there. Whenever you sit still, the ego (you) are not there. And you don't like that. So you bubble back up and you are always successful is grabbing the attention. Until the attention knows to shun you out -

@Jed Vassallo there mind understands time in terms of cycles. 1 earth rotations in a year 365 Sun rises and falls in a year 24 hours in a day What time is it on the Sun? And I guess try to understand like this also. When you have a dreamless sleep for example, you don't know how much time has passed until you check. It feels like no-time at all. One moment ur laying down for sleep and then blank and then awake. Yet. 1 hour sleep vs 8 hour sleep... The longer sleep has more benefits. Even though the experience is of no-time -

The universe is not what you think it is. No thing is what you think it is. You are not what you think you are. Do not concern yourself about your life. Do not concern yourself about your body, about your affairs. You can only live like this when you live spontaneously. When you live in the very second of existence. In this very second there is only 'That'. Which always was and will always be. You have to catch yourself in that split second. That split second of eternity. You are that eternity. Do not bother to look for eternity. Do not even look for that split second. Just be it. For when you look for it you're using your mind and your mind is a product of time and space. Therefore if you try to find that split second with your mind you'll never find it. When you just are in that very beingness you are in that split second of eternity. It's really so simple I tell you this all the time, just be! Do not be this or that. Just be! Just say to yourself, "I-am." When you say to yourself, "I-am," you're just being. You feel just wonderful when you just are as some of you are feeling right now. It's wonderful to drop everything. To let go of everything. And begin to understand there is nothing to fear and there is nothing to fight. That feeling comes to you without the words. You just become that. If you have to say it, "There is nothing to fear, there is nothing to fight," then you are lying to yourself because you feel fear and you feel there is something to fight. You cannot voice these things. You cannot voice these things I'm telling you. For remember to voice it there has to be someone left to voice it. There has to be an experiencer and an experience. When the experience and the experiencer are gone then you are at home in the ineffable. Some of you still believe that realization is when you resolve your problems. You believe that when you become liberated then things will be the way that you want them to be. I tell you this is a bunch of hogwash. (silence) Robert Adams, T148: Be “That” -

THE PURPOSE OF A FISH TRAP IS TO CATCH FISH, AND WHEN THE FISH ARE CAUGHT THE TRAP IS FORGOTTEN. THE PURPOSE OF WORDS IS TO CONVEY IDEAS. WHEN THE IDEAS ARE GRASPED THE WORDS ARE FORGOTTEN. WHERE CAN I FIND A MAN WHO HAS FORGOTTEN WORDS? HE IS THE ONE I WOULD LIKE TO TALK TO. -

All beings are involved in an evolutionary journey. In the course of history, and far into pre-recorded history, beings have been getting lost in the illusion, and awakening out of it. Some beings have finished their work and have awakened out of illusion, the illusion that is involved in birth after birth, not only on the physical plane, but on every other plane as well. When these free beings finally emerge from the illusion through grace, through the help of other beings who have escaped, they are faced with a choice. That choice is whether to merge back into God, or to resist that merging and remain in form on one plane or another; either to take birth again on the physical plane or to make their substance condense on a lower astral plane in order to do ‘work’ for the relief of suffering of other beings. The way in which these free spiritual beings help us is to speed our journey back to God. They don’t turn us around. If you’re aimed away from God they won’t interfere. But the minute you look up, the minute your despair concerning the possibility for worldly gratification is great enough, you turn inward or reach upward towards God. And at that moment these beings (the true guru) are called forth by your prayers, by your cry for help, by your seeking for God. And then they shower upon you the grace of their presence, and the vibratory rate of their presence speeds up your journey incredibly. On the physical-psychological plane, it’s apparent when one is around such a free being, that such a being is a perfect mirror for oneself, since they themselves are not attached to being anybody; who you see them to be is merely your own projection. Being around such a being allows you to see the way in which you are creating the universe. That mirror helps you gain the perception of your own attachments which ultimately allows you to become unattached to any models you have of the universe, and to truly see the guru who is none other than God, who is none other than Self, which is the unmanifest Absolute. The guru is constantly confronting you with where you’re not, with where you’re holding your secret stash of attachment. For people who are still much attached to their senses and to their thinking-minds, the guru manifests the teachings on the physical plane. It may be through a person, whom you call a guru (that is, they may embody themselves on this plane for that purpose), or it may be just through a set of teachings that they may create for you out of your life ‘web’. Though they are not manifesting on the physical plane they manipulate the substance of your karma in such a way as to speed up your awakening, once you have reached up for God. Ram Dass -

Purification is the act of letting go. This is done out of discriminative awareness. That is, you understand that you are an entity passing through a life in which the entire drama is an offering for your awakening. You see that the life experience is a vehicle for coming to God, or becoming conscious, for becoming liberated. And you understand ultimately that’s what you are doing here. ~ Ram Dass -

☯️☯️☯️Huang Po says, "Most people allow their mind to be obstructed by the world and then try to escape from the world. They don't realize that their mind obstructs the world. If they could only let their minds be empty, the world would be empty. Don't misuse the mind. If you want to be free of the world, you should forget the mind. Once you forget the mind, the world becomes empty. And when the world becomes empty, the mind disappears. If you don't forget the mind and only get rid of the world, you only succeed in becoming more confused. Thus it is said, 'all things are only the mind.' But the mind cannot be found. When you can't find a thing, you have reached the final goal. Why bother running around looking for liberation? This is how you should control the mind. Once you see your own nature, you won't have any deluded thoughts. Once you have no deluded thoughts, you have controlled your mind." -

Q: What is this Parabrahman like? M: The answer is, what is Bombay? Don't give me the geography or the atmosphere of Bombay, give me a handful of Bombay. What is Bombay? It is impossible to say, so also with Parabrahman. There is no giving or taking of Parabrahman, you can only be That. Nisargadatta Maharaj -

Indeed. Automatically so. Just as there's no bravery needed to not be fearful of the 'snake' when it's seen to be only a rope. The fear vanishes instantly when the rope is seen. Same way, acceptance results with that discovery. @Highest ? Now and for eternity. -
SoonHei replied to Jahmaine's topic in Spirituality, Consciousness, Awakening, Mysticism, Meditation, God
@Jahmaine ego is suffering. Ego cannot stop being itself. When there is ego, there will be suffering. You can be free of the ego which = you can be free of suffering (as ego = suffering) You do this by realizing you're not the ego. When you are no longer the one who is suffering, then your suffering ends, automatically. Example, you find out that your mom got into a car accident. You rush to the hospital and are deeply troubled and worried. When you get there, you find out there's been a mistake and it was not your mother who got into the accident. The moment you realize this, the suffering ends. In this case, the one suffering is very intimate, close, personal. So seeing that you're not the ego (what you thought you were) It can be a very radical realization so can be a mixed bags of emotions which follow, but liberation is certainly on that list. That's the only way to be free of the suffering... To see you're not the one who suffers. And The ego / character must resolve/accept the situation and can find peace in that. No resistance to the circumstances. -

Maharaj: Whatever appears has really no existence. And whatever has not appeared also drops away; what remains is That, the Absolute. “That” is like Bombay. Visitor: Bombay certainly seems to be appearing at the moment. We should sell him another city. M: But I normally ask you this kind of question, whether Bombay sleeps, whether it wakes up in the morning, whether it is worried, whether it has pain and pleasure. I do not refer to the people of Bombay, nor to the land, but to that which remains. Now you know that you are. Prior to this moment, did you have this knowledge that you exist? This consciousness, beingness, which you are experiencing now, was it there earlier? V: It has been, on and off. (…) M: If you are about to photograph this land, I would say, no don’t photograph… take a photograph of it but without land. Whatever is Bombay, take a photograph of that and show me. Can you? V: I could not do it. M: So that is like photographing yourself without the body. You are that, like Bombay. https://realization.org/p/nisargadatta/quintessence/quintessence.1.html Nisargadatta Maharaj, The Ultimate Medicine -

@Blissout there isn't a how. There is only increasing the likelihood of the realization to happen. But still no guarantee. Like trying to get struck by lightening. Going on top of a mountain with a metal rod during a thunderstorm increase the chances but you still may not get struck... Vs a random passer by on the street can be hit Another way to understand the no "how" is picturing someone who wears glasses. Let's say Harry Potter. Now harry Potter is searching for his Glasses all over his room. He has been searching for them for 5 hours. Under the bed, in the drawers, behind the cabinet etc etc... No luck. Then he finally sits down, tired from the search when it's finally clear... So very obvious... His glasses were on his face the whole time... In the ignorance of this fact, he had been overlooking and looking right thru them while searching for them. Where is the HOW? there's no how. There's only the realization. Sure, a mirror can help in the Harry Potter story... But not with self realization... Because there is no mirror which can show you your face... Because the mirror is also your face. Teeth cannot chew themselves Finger tip cannot touch itself Eyes cannot see themselves REALIZE. RECOGNIZE No how. How to increase the likelihood? Meditation. Quiten the mind/thoughts... Distractions... Like Harry Potter... When he was too busy looking thru the glasses he overlooked them but when his focus turned front and very immediate, he saw the lens. That's the "how" And that "how" is infinitely varied. -

@WisdomSeeker don't worry about the lifestyle and Rolls-Royce. Don't project how an enlightened person should or should not be. An Enlightened person can be a beggar and also a porn star. There's no instruction manual. Reading a few of oshos books. It has Wisdom overflowing through and through. -

@dimitri hmmm Dog chasing its own tail ? Also, the seeking/quote used here refers to the spiritual seeking... Not really about helping... But yes. The seeking is what results when there's ignorance present. The seeker/you ARE the resistance... Not the one resisting. I like this one aswell, the fish in the water can never find the water if it's looking for it. if the fish is searching for water... It means there's ignorance for the fish about what water is... As it is never not in the water. The search/seeking implies ignorance. The seeking ends once it is realized what is being looked for was always here/now... Indeed. 100%! And what is this "you"? It is the seeker. You = seeker. You is the fish looking for water. And when would a seeker be present? When there's a search. Doesn't mean to just drop the search... That would be quitting. Search truly ends with the realization that nothing was ever lost = finding/discovering what's being searched for. (Yourself) Eyes don't suddenly find themselves. They realize they are themselves -

@zeroISinfinity yup. Only and ever One. But like a picture, there's a background and a foreground. Focus on background, lose the foreground. Focus on the foreground, lose the background.
