A quick reference for those who wish a bit of background: http://alangullette.com/essays/philo/nagarjuna.htm Nagarjunas basis for argument was that no conceptual system can hold absolutely true. He showed through his arguments that all is relative and all that is relative is false. I find interesting simularities between this sort of negative debate method in clearing away your concepts and beliefs. Kind of like what leo talked about in some recent videos. It also has interesting simularities with Jed Mckennas spiritual autolysis. Opinions?

I think that boredom gets a bad rap sometimes. Use boredom instead of getting used. Addictive behavior is a very common theme. Have you ever tried to become bored with something that you know you have an unhealthy attachment to? example: I stopped playing video games by constantly asking myself what it was doing for me? A waste of time generally for no return other then that spike of entertainment pleasure. I kept moving from game to game becoming more and more bored and finding the same qualities with every new game. Eventually i realized that video games taken as an experience had no hold over me and i now use my time much more productively. Asking myself: what is the point of this? One day I will die and what will this thing mean then?

Thinking just is. Its not good or bad. its not right or wrong. it can be all of those. it can be none of those. just perspectives. try a different one.

Alcohol is the same as anything else. How it is used is most important. I am sure it is possible that it could be used for a short term benefit. Its great for causing you to relax both physically and socially. However, perhaps you should look at what you are actually doing. You are ingesting a known poison for the benefits that it gives you. A nice short term experience that you the consciousness enjoys but does damage to your body. Short term gain, long term loss. No matter what substance it is: Is it helpful? is it useful? how is it unhelpful? will this be hurtful in any way? With these things in mind I cannot see the point of drinking on almost any occasion. I think the real question thought might be something like: why are you looking for validation about drinking? "getting shitfaced" is kind of a negative title for something you are trying to defend. it doesn't quite smell right.

In my experience with this sort of thing I have found that noticing when I overthink is the key factor. When I notice this tendency in myself i find it best to label it, let it be, and move back to what is going on right now. Minds are very conditioned to judge things. Why is that necessarily a bad thing? It is just information you gather as long as you believe it may not be accurate.
